The Cult of Moleskine

Sig

"I wish I could fully convey to you the burning, vitriolic hatred I have for the
whole Moleskine cult. For those who don’t know, Moleskines are overpriced
notebooks with a fanatical following.

I should say that I’m sure there are people with legitimate uses for
them. I suppose an argument can be made that the paper is particularly good for
sketching or whatever. Fair enough, I suppose.

What gets me are the users who ascribe mystical powers to them, or who
seem to think Moleskines are so far superior to anything else that they have
spawned their own art forms. For example, there is now Moleskine Art. How
Moleskine art is any different than other art produced on paper has yet to be
explained. Oh, a few famous people like Hemingway used them. Which means that
you are part of some noble, artistic lineage if you use one as well. Or, as one
user described it, “a continuum of creativity stretching back through Van Gogh,
Matisse, Hemingway, Chatwin”.
