The Write Locations

"Wherever I go to hunt, I am obliged to write-not necessarily completed
stories while in the field (though I have done so), but at least notes.

folding chairs; in cabins and tents by candle and lantern light; in
iglus, gers, and thatched-roof rondavels; while leaning against a
parked Land Rover; while swaying in the deckhouses of fishing boats
moving along the coasts of Canada and Alaska; while belted into small
aircraft wobbling above various parts of the world; while seated in a
meadow watching saddle horses graze nearby; in places where it was so
hot the pages of the notebook curled like withering leaves, or so cold
the ink in the pen would not flow; by flashlight, lying on the ground
under a mosquito net with my loaded rifle beside me; and safely behind
the sturdy log walls of a lodge...."
