    I saw something about this recently in a magazine, maybe National Geographic?

    Well, it’s certainly sad to ships broken apart on the beach instead of sailing the seas, but this is recycling–which is a good thing. Plus, a lot of these ships are outmoded single-hulled tankers, which are an environmental threat. Better to chop these babies up now, before they do it to themselves fully loaded–on a beach near you.
