The Saddest Thing I Own

"The saddest thing I have is at the same time the most precious thing I
have: it is a letter from my mother to her sister a few months before she died.
In it she writes about how she worries about how her daughter – me, 8 years old
at the time – will cope with her not being there anymore and her words are full
of love but also consolation for all who she knows she will soon leave behind.
Decades later it still makes me so sad to read how this wonderful woman, at the
time already in bad pain and condition, only thinks of others and that many
times people who have so much to give die way too young."

This site is so heartbreaking. Lovely, yes… But so deeply sad.
