TUL Gel Pens
"I have been trying out the NEW Tul Gel Pens made especially for Office Max. The Tul Gel .5 pen is as close to the G2 as I have found, beating even the 207. It is fancier than the G2. I would say it writes 95 percent as well as the G2. Time only will tell if it beats the G2..."

Just wondering, as a moleskine+G2 user, I've been noticing a trend towards trying to find the perfect G2 replacement. Is there something about the G2 I should be aware of?

armand,
thank you for featuring tul pens on your blog, or weblog, if i may.

Do these pens contain acid free ink?
One of the reasons I love the G2 and 207 so much is the ink is permanent and I don't have to worry about it fading over time, or washing away if it gets wet.

I've been using cahiers a lot lately--especially now that jacket weather is coming up and I can keep a pocket cahier and a pen in there for random notes. However my G2s and Uniball Gel pens skip A LOT on these. They also skip on some Extra Large Cahiers I picked up recently. I've been loathe to use my fountain pens for fear of losing them from my jacket pocket, but my gel pens are just no good in every cahier i've purchased recently.

I've given up on Pilot G2 pens partly due to the skipping issue that Alex mentioned and partly due to Mike Shea's ink test results. [link=http://www.flickr.com/photos/mikeshea/sets/72057594132628713/detail/]
I have since switched to Zebra's Sarasa pens. They are acid-free, darker, smoother, and have never skipped on my Moleskine paper. The only problems is they dry slowly so they will smudge on the opposite page unless you stick a loose cahier sheet in between freshly inked pages. I don't know if they stand up to chemicals though. I prefer a slimmer line so I usually go with 0.5mm Sarasa pens. They are hard to find in stores though (the cheapest option I found was a set of 6 on eBay).

Is it possible to purchase refills for the TUL ink pen?
If so how and what is the price? Thank you

Is there a place to get Tul pens other than Office Max? I absolutely love them but want to order online. Suggestions please!

I recently bought the pictures TUL pen and one of the "balls" from the ballpoint fell out :( I don't like that!

One of the offices of my company stocks the TUL gel pens. I use them reliably in the Moleskine when the fountain pen ink runs dry. I find them and the Uniball pens to be a great substitute for a fountain pen. But there is nothing like a fountain pen...

I just bought the TUL Fine Point Pens and they Stink... I bought a Pack of 4 with multi colors for my Pen Art. Well 2 of the colors out of the box could not prodcue Ink. The others that did not don't have a solid touch to the paper and leaves skip marks. These Pens stink Dont Believe the HYPE.... JUST GO WITH SIGNO UNIBALL

I too really love the TUL gelpens. I have only used the 0.7mm blue ink ones. I'm constantly on the lookout for great cheap pens, and I've not found a better one in over a year.
I too would like to get refills just to save a few bucks. I think the plastic internals would probably survive 1 or 2 refills.
I see you got a reply from the TUL Dr., but he didn't answer your question!
Cheers,
Steve

have tried them all. Uniball, Parker, Pilot, not very good instruments. went to Pentel, outstanding writing instrument. but i decided to try the TUL. Superior writing performance even to a Pentel. of course, the fountain pen is still king just not practical in my job.

The TUL pens are very nice but have very little ink in them. They run out in no time. I hate the wastefulness. No one has answered the question about refills. Does anyone know?

Just adding my 2 cents.
I've used pens to write and draw with for nearly 50 years, and started with 19 cent Bics, if you're old enough, you might remember TV spots where they fire one through a board and it still writes.
Since then I've worked with felt, Rapidographs and now for all around use I stick with the Tul black fine.
The Pilots and Unibals tend to loosen up after a while and dump to much ink on the page.
And yes I have had one Tul lose its ball, and I've had lots of pens over the years screw up, but hey, try writing in wet clay, or carving on rocks.
Modern life is easy, enjoy it.
By the way, if you haven't yet, try writing on rice, in script, I recomend 6x0 Rapidograph, very finicky :o)

I concur with Victoria. The ink is gone in no time. I have 20 empty pens and looking for refills - especially purple. A little help please.
Anyone who has used my TUL asks to keep it. Great pen.
Happy with my TUL.

Can you but refills anywhere for the Tul Pens? I have looked and looked and hda no luck. I contacted the local Office Max and they say they do not carry refills.

The Colorado pen website has refills that look like they would fit the Tul pens, but they are not gel ballpoints--they are either roller balls or fineliners. I too adore the pens, as do two of my friends, an editor and a professor. However, I also feel they are wasteful without refills available. It's not the money savings so much as the utter waste of so many lovely pens. Perhaps we could all put pressure on Office Max to provide refills. For the person who wanted to order them online, I believe you can order them online from Office Max.

I found this comment from Thad on a site called MONASTIC SKETE:
FYI, you can put either a Uni-Ball 207 OR a Signo RT Gel .38 refill into the TUL gel pen - they both work perfectly in that nicely-designed case...makes a hell of a nice, mid-range Frankenpen.

I truly love my TUL pens however I'm finding that they leak terribly. I think that the comment regarding the refils were referring to the click style TUL pens, not the type that has the pull off cap.

I love my Tul, but I too am frustrated by how quickly they run out of ink. Has anyone complained to the company? i appreciate the refill suggestion..i'm holding all my empties to try the next time I go into town. Hope it works!!
