DETOUR Artist Profile: Valeria Petrone

Valeria Petrone began her art education in her native Italy and then moved to London, studying  at London’s St. Martins School of Art. She remained in London as a freelance illustrator for several years, strongly influenced by the tradition of British children’s book illustration. Although still maintaining links with publishers in the U.K., she has extended the scope of her activity to include publishers in the US, Japan and Italy, where she now lives. She does also editorial illustration for several Italian and UK magazines. Valeria’s recent projects include ‘Way Far Away on a Wild Safari’ by Jan Peck (Simon & Schuster) and ‘Horris Grows Down’ by Shari Becker (Putnam).
