Watercolor vs. Sketch vs Plain

DIY Sarah asked:

I was wondering which type of Moleskine you enjoy most for various media…

watercolor, ink washes, acrylics, watercolor pencils, etc. etc. etc.

I read somewhere that the Sketch Moleskine is not vary good with accepting watercolor washes, etc.

What is your experience?

Forgive me but I couldn’t find a discussion on this topic.  If there is one, please direct me via a link 😀

  1. watercolor, ink washes, acrylics, watercolor pencils, pencils. etc.

the Sketch Moleskine is great and handy to use all day from cafes to the studio even when I wake up in the middle of the night with new concepts that flicker in my mind.

I love and stick to B8 pencil !

  2. It took a while to get use to using watercolor on the sketchbooks, but I use them exclusively now. The paper is highly sized so I often put a clear or slightly tinted wash on the paper first. After it dries water color goes on much better.

  3. i tried using the sketch for watercolors. it is not as accepting to the washes. the color tends to “fall out” or literally slides off.

but for acrylics and gouche, its fairly ok. especially if you’re not bombarding it with water too much.
