Vision Statement

In a studio by the sea waits a coterie of inspired objects

Saltbox
is a collaborative installation that embodies the sentiments of a
seaside tradition. Referencing both the American and French influences
that define the classical aesthetic of costal life, the vision speaks a
language of tranquility and romance. In this atelier one will find a
meticulous collection of possessions, each unique and personal in
nature, collectively inspiring the ethos of an artist..

About the company

An artist and graphic designer by profession, Derrick R. Cruz,
founder of Black Sheep & Prodigal Sons left his roots in Puerto
Rico for the U.S. when he was 17. Cruz’s work is influenced by the
diaspora effect and how it spawns new mythologies.

As
cultural alchemy, his work combines seemingly disparate technologies,
materials and archetypes to create new "objects for remembering." To
emphasize his narrative, each piece is meticulously handcrafted and
delivered in handmade packaging.

Established in the summer of 2006, Black Sheep and Prodigal
Sons is already being sold at Bblessing in New York, Scout in L.A.,
BASE in Miami as well as stores in Australia, Japan and Canada, a sure
sign of its unique artistry and commercial viability.

Black Sheep & Prodigal Sons won the Gen Art Styles 2007 International Design Competition Award for accessories.
