Barry Galvin's Bible Study Set-up

6a00e55231920f883300e552a5250c88348

Long-time Moleskine user Barry Galvin shared his bible study set-up in a recent blog post:

I've used these wonderful notebooks for many years, for my business and personal life. I use one pocket reporter's notebook for logging Bible verse numbers that are relevant to my current situation in life (if I'm happy, sad, confused, worrying, etc.), for writing study notes whilst reading my study Bible, for writing scenario-based scripts using the Evidence Bible as a guide, for taking notes whilst watching the various Christian TV channels on Sky Digital, and for quickly jotting down thoughts and feelings about my daily life. It's a great capturing tool!

What is in your Moleskine?

45903

I just wonder every now and then what other people actually write in their little black books.  In mine, I write my interpretation of daily events though sometimes it takes a significant jolt to make me come up with something to write.  There are also notes on what I do in the office or garden. I call mine the little "book of ideas".  I just jot down whatever comes to mind. These so called ideas that may or may not be useful but I do believe some will come in handy someday.

LAist Interviews Jessie Baylin

Jb398845_2

LAist: You've been fortunate to make a lot of talented friends in Hollywood. What's the best advice you received as you were just starting out in the LA music scene?

My friend John Mayer once told me, "Just write. Write as much as you possibly can. All the time."

Also, John knows I love Stevie Nicks, and one day when he knew he was going to see her, he bought a Moleskine for her to sign. He told her, "I know this girl who loves you and I really feel like you're going to inspire her if you sign this. She'll fill it up."

Laist07_2 He then sent it to me with a note that said, "To help you on your way…" I opened it up and it said, "With love, Stevie."

The day I received the signed Moleskine, I wrote "The Glitter." I was driving and had to pull over to the side of the road because the song was suddenly there in my head.

In Memoriam

Mkdpx_1

Day is done,
gone the sun,
From the hills,
from the lake,
From the skies.
All is well,
safely rest,
God is nigh.

Go to sleep,
peaceful sleep.
May the soldier
or sailor,
God keep.
On the land
or the deep,
Safe in sleep.

Love, good night,
Must thou go,
When the day,
And the night
Need thee so?
All is well.
Speedeth all
To their rest.

Featured Artist: Bili Bidjocka

Bili Bidjocka, was born in Douala, Cameroon, now works in Paris, Brussels and New York. He is widely exhibited, making his work on the road, turning the debris of urban living and its excesses into art. He participate the Venice Biennale where he was the author of the ongoing project L'ecriture infinie. His work deals with issues of nationality, indeterminacy and identity, always informed by religious practices and rites from his birthplace. Some objects and ideas are collected on the streets to make a tribute to the hypocritical veneer over our indebtedness to the personal services industry, while on the other hand, investigating the underscoring insidiousness of the language of the industry. His installation pieces are meant to be methaphors for loss, absence, ravishment, and renewal. Quoting Okwui Enwezor, who selected him in the past Biennale of Johannesburg "They are reminders of the silence, the only left-over after the aggressive cleansing of the memories of migrants. On one side there are metaphors of loss and absence, filled with emptiness. On the other side are traces of ecstasy en longing."

A storyteller is a plagiarist

2507011271_92a1a95a23

“By nature a storyteller is a plagiarist. Everything one comes across — each incident, book, novel, life episode, story, person, news clip — is a coffee bean that will be crushed, ground up, mixed with a touch of cardamom, sometimes a pinch of salt, boiled thrice with sugar and served as a piping-hot tale.”
