Moleskine notes in Oregonian

Photographer Erik Gauger was featured on Saturday’s Travel section. He describes firsthand travel experiences and the lessons they teach.

"More than a few times today, I have asked myself why. Why am I still travel blogging 10 years after I began? It’s an answer I wasn’t sure of until I wrote these words. Let me explain.

One weekend 10 years ago, I left town and drove aimlessly. I ended up in a bar in the desert, three hours from home, and was stunned by what felt like another world — a world of crass language and heavy drinking and easy friendships. "
