The afternoon sun still high,
Burning rock, soil and stone bright orange
Thorn bush and the sky blue counter point

Occasional interruptions, figures float across the landscape.

Whose was this house?
A Pro-consul’s? The highest citizen of Paphos?

The courtyard with its rich mosaics signal greatness
All Greek stories are represented here,
Time and temperature cannot change their beauty.

Snatches of conversation drift across in the heat
"Er look at that"
"Yeah, it’s clever"

We are all smitten in by the grace of this Roman home,
In ruins yet still great.
