Writing things in.
Usually journaling. or stories. Sometimes random notes to myself during the day. mostly my pocket moleskine is quotes and stuff from my friends and such. I've written down funny quotes from class, and story ideas. sometimes sketches.
Basically a weird catchall to take care of random things that I think up during the day, so I don't lose a list or something.(i use it for grocery lists too).

I have the impulse to buy the notebooks even if I don't yet know what I want them for. Different notebooks for different things. Diary, watercolors, sketchbook.

Jeff T.

Mine is purposed as a paper vessel of sorts in which to write things. I suppose I should now use mine to drop prepositions at the end of a sentence, just as some writers on this thread have demonstrated an apparent and unchecked propensity for doing.

Actually, I'm using my most recently purchased notebook to write about the recent loss of a dear colleague of mine from the shared world of academia.

My pocket notebook has literally everything in; from new ideas to reminders about bills, however my Large notebook is used for good ideas, sketches and all notes from lectures at University. All my friends end up with folders full of messy pages of lecture notes which they can't make sense of and never use, but all my notes are in one safe place; My Moleskine.

David Hollis

I try to use the Getting things Done metnod of being productive. I use my Moleskin as what GTD calls a "ubiquitous capture device". That is, if I remember something I need to do or find a bit of information to save, I write it in there. Is perfect size as I try to keep it with me at all times.

Eric

I use mine as a portal for everything that is on my mind, mostly things already mentioned, notes, journaling, reminders, a sort of GTD type To Do list called 'Circles'. In the back pocket, I carry an emergency $20, a couple index cards and two Paris metro tickets.

Lena

I literally have five moleskines at one time, each with its own purpose. I have various sized cahiers for my to do list, job search notes, financial records, and my creative writing. Then I have a plain journal for my day to day journal keeping. Now that I think about it, that's a lot of paper to travel around with.

Gabrielle

I use my sketchbook for everything:journal, sketch, collage, class notes taking, lists of books to read and movies to watch. I have a smaller plain moleskine i use when i need to write something right away, or sketch an idea or try something. The bigger one takes about three months to fill, the smaller one, i have since 6 months now i think.

Emma S

My main Moleskine cahier is my "journal" (though I just call it my notebook), in which I collect my thoughts, amusing tidbits from the things I read, recipes, and 2-D paraphernalia (Jones Soda labels, stickers, pressed flowers, etc).

JoHanna

Everything that goes through my brain. I have sketches, journals, notes of "to dos", facts, quotes, etc. I love moleskines and have this habit (spelled addiction) of purchasing them even when I don't need a new one yet. I can't stop myself.

Harry Dean

I use my moleskines for various different themed journals which I refer to as "projects" the latest project is a series of entries starting with 1 to be ended at 1,000. I am a prolific journal writer in nearly the same as that nut Arther Crew Inman, though I've tried to dispell the fantasy that my journals will somehow grant me immortality. Moleskines are a relatively cheap way to indulge my hypergraphia.

J.

Got to agree with whoever said that she can't resist buying new moleskines even though she doesn't need a new one yet -- I do the same. I carry a cahier for whatever pops into my head during the day, but other than that, for my larger moleskines, it's mostly...also whatever pops into my head.

Every once in a while, I'll try to designate certain notebooks for certain topics/subjects/things. It never works. Inevitably, my classwork bleeds into my writing, my notes into my classwork, my writing into my notes... I'm not sure if I should keep trying to separate everything.

I guess this also shows how much attention I pay during class.

Candice

I use one for my day-to-day journal, and the other to keep outlines for stories in.

Sophie Brown

It's an interesting subject, hypergraphia, Harry Dean.

I think those of us who have it assume that all notebook keepers do, but it's a small faction. If you can find a way to add some order to it, more power to you. As far as I know there's no known way to stop. It just IS.

I to like so many other Moleskine addictees can't help but purchase new moleskines in a variety of styles even when i don't need one or know what i'm going to use it for. my last one i filled with notes and plans for an overseas trip, it then doubled as my diary. my new one is empty, i love the possibilities.

Fred Berktin

I use mine (and for many years) as a log book/diary/scrap book, that's why when I'm finished with one it is so thick.
I do a lot of hiking so all my hiking logs and photos increased my usage of my large lined Moleskine notebooks.
I also have a pocket Moleskine that I use for my backyard memorable astronomical observations.

Then I use my New York City book a lot.
Then there's the week at a glance agenda, I take everywhere.

Lainer

I've been using an old weekly notebook planner as a place to jot down notes. I bought the wrong style planner for last year, so this is just a notebook for me now.

Kurt M

I use one as a planner (http://aks-research.blogspot.com/2007/08/diary-moleskine-hack.html) and another as an address/phone book.

Brandon Waite

I call mine my "Little Books of Life" and I write about life. I write stories, descriptions, thoughts, inspirations, quotes and experiences. I use to keep a separate journal, but have since ceased such practice. I came to the realization that what I write in my pocket moleskines about my life and thoughts and beliefs, and that the quotes I transcribe there will show myself and the world who I am better than any dry rendering of simple day to day events. In this way I write what I am actually passionate about and what is on my mind when it is on my mind, instead of trying to remember everything at the end of the day out of the simple drudgery of routine.

Astoria

Just saw this discussion when I went through all the entries I've not read. I use mine currently for recipes and sketches/drawings of dessert platings. I work in a dessert restaurant and we do modern european plated desserts. To help me remember, I draw all of the platings down with description of each items (we have to explain to the customers what they are). Also, because we make all the components of the desserts ourselves, it's full of recipes too!
