Questions:
1) What is your current Moleskine notebook?
A: Large ruled soft notebook
2) How do you use your notebook?
A: I use my Moleskine to record ideas and notes from my conversations I have with people about the media campaign that I launched November 2009, called She's the First -- it promotes the importance of educating girls in developing nations. We're using social media to spread a viral PSA video that connects people to a directory on shesthefirst.org, where they can find programs to sponsor a girl. We're also connecting the schools that are members of our network with each other via digital media, so they can exchange information and grow together.
3) What's the next place you plan to take your notebook to?
A: My Moleskine was in my bag when I visited the New York Botanical Gardens -- the lily pond is a serene place to write! -- and the next place I'll take my notebook is probably my apartment. My She's the First team is coming over on the weekend to celebrate our launch and jot down our next steps for 2010.
4) What do you want to tell the world?
A: I want to tell the world not to underestimate the "girl effect," a term pioneered by the Nike Foundation: research shows that girls’ education not only lands them better, sustainable jobs and salaries, thereby stimulating economic growth for the nation and family, but also reduces child mortality and malnutrition, brings improved health to women and their families, delays the age of first marriage, lowers fertility rates, and increases literacy rates.
5) Where will you and your notebook be in 5 years?
A: Wow, that's hard to say because where I am in 2010 is not anything I imagined in 2005 (it's better!)! I won't be throwing this notebook out -- the words inside are too valuable! So let's just say it will be wherever I am, wherever that is in 2015.
